We have over 20 trucks at work ,all with various size cummins engines. All the cummins's with aluminum oil pans ,the drain plugs tighten themselves unbelievably tight.Hand tight at an oil change and the next time 3/4 impact to loosen.We have taken to using teflon thread tape on the drain plugs ,but have not been at it long enough to see if it makes any difference except for no leaks.We have (9) 8.3L 505ci cummins's with steel oil pans and all of them have had big nuts or wrenches welded to the drain plug at some time in it's life. Too soft of metal in the plug I guess.
