Delco generator terminals will be labeled "A" (ARMature) and "F" (Field), and will connect to matching "A" and "F" terminals on the voltage regulator.

Before starting the tractor, after a long period of non-use, or a battery polarity change, you should have "polarized" the generator by using a jumper wire to momentarily connect "BATT" and "ARM" at the voltage regulator.

This assures that, upon startup, the generator will begin to charge with the same ground polarity as the battery connections.

Since you apparently did not do this, you MAY have damaged the voltage regulator and/or the generator.
