Recirculating ball steering rebuild

I've been posting about the steering on the 5220 D-A and have yet another question or 3. I have the thing apart and just wonder if the 'average bear' is smart enough to rebuild this. I'm not the brightest bulb on the Xmas tree, but pretty mechanical. Have any of you done this before? If so, any tips? Can the ball guides be replaced? Thanks! FTM
