Hey Dan ,I have the same set up on my Farmall A.Monarch road equipment in the casting.The only times I had problems was due to belt slippage [under load].All i can say is observe the belt while another guy operates the control rod.Its also good to use a shorter belt in some cases to keep the unit tucked in to the machine.It is also my generator belt so if it slips charging on ammeter will show it some too.I hope my simple answer helps you solve a simple problem.Tightening a belt is simple after that I have no answer.Good Luck.
