(Ok- this is not an antique tractor question- but my skid steer is helping me get my barn fixed up so I can set up shop to restore my old tractors- ok?) I picked up this old New Holland L555 deluxe skid steer, and after a bit of repair/maintenance I started to use it this weekend. I don't think the former owner ever changed oil or filters or checked hyd oil level, and I don't think he owned a grease gun.. With help from this site, I diagnosed the engine problem to 2 bad glow plugs- now runs great. There was a hyd leak that I fixed. I replaced all fluids and filters, new battery, pressure washed, fixed flat tire, greased all around, and it is ready to work. This is my first time on a skid steer. I can see why these things are so popular! Here is my question. If you end up using this on concrete or pavement, how do you prevent trashing the tires when you turn? I have been making gradual turns while on concrete, to save rubber. I did have a wacky thought- I have a coule sets of old automobile tire chains. What if I was to mount these if I am doing a fair amount of work on concrete? Sure, it would be noisy and bumpy, but what the heck...would save tires I imagine!
