When dad worked at the Fiat-Allis dealership back in the 70's every piece of equipment on the yard got started, warmed up to operating temp, and ran around the yard at least once a month. This allowed moisture buildup to get "burned" out of the system as well as keeping the seals lubricated to prevent dry rotting and flattening. As far as actual on road vehicles go I've always heard it put this way... If given the choice between two identical cars, one driven everyday by a hot-rodding teenager and the other driven back and forth to church every Sunday, never over 35MPH, by a little old lady, your better off taking the one driven by the teenager.
