I grew up in the stone post country up in West-central Kansas. My grandfather made stone posts out of limestone ledges about 12 inches thick. So it is similar to your thickness, but holes were drilled about 12 inches apart with a brace and bit, when first uncovered, the stone is fairly soft. If yours is dried out, it is probably much harder, hammer drill time. In the holes were driven feathers and wedges. It was an art learned through experience on how to hit the wedges so the post would break off where you wanted. In your case I would drill the holes about 12 inches apart about 8 inches deep, 3/4 inch dia. and fill with water before a hard freeze. The depth may take some experimenting. Good luck!! The easy way is to just saw them out with a diamond saw blade.
