Cold engine operation due to short trips and winter driving is death to any engine. When you get it back together use the block heater when ever at 40F or less. Yes I know it will start at -20F without one. All the cold metal is busy condensing water plus the goo and acids from an inefficient cold running engine. And running it into the rankcase. Starting an engine in cold weather without a block heater and idling it for 10-20 minutes is even worse. Told this to the neighbour and he agreed. Even found and dragged out the block heater cord. And ran an extention cord out from the garage. He still never used it. 20 minutes before leaving for work he would still go out and start it and race the engine a few times as soon as it started while it had no oil pressure.
