david brown hydraulics

It"s 10 degrees out, went to move some snow with my db 1210. The clutch seemed very stiff, and when it started the loader groaned excessively, then it blew the cap off the hydraulic resevoir. Could this be that I have an awful lot of water in my system? What am I up against in fixing this. I don"t have a heated barn or garage. Is it simply draining and refilling with clean fluids? I"ve also heard from some who say the external hydraulic filter that I have on my return line are not worth it. Any other input?
