All my friends (some die hard chevy guys) claim they really use oil. They are solid engines and i have a lot of repect for them but they will use oil. They also are extremely thirsty!!!! Really depends on what you are going to use it for. If pulling and a lot of highway miles I would think diesel cost of ownership would make more sense. BUT NOT A GM DIESEL!!!!!!!!!! preferrably Dodge Cummins or Ford if a Dodge cannot be had.

Cummins in a Dodge will get 20 mpg empty and 14-16 pulling, at least that is what I get.

but that ole' 454 is an awesome engine with lots of power. If I had to own a gasser (terrible thought) I would get a Chevy with the 454.
