1943 farmall H

I am haveing problems starting this H when I bought it the man said they converted it to 12 volt then could not get it started. the engine looked to be in good shape.I have converted it back to 6 volt I rebuilt the carb but it floods very easy. I have good spark an I am pretty sure its timed close. when I go to start it it will only run as long as I keep the starter switch engaged. any suggestions would help thanks glenn
