Want a really good book to read?

One Good Turn is a terrific book on the history of the screwdriver.

I recall details from one chapter which dealt with the Canadian contribution to the world of screws:

Robertson was an inventor and Henry Ford wanted his square-socket screw, but he demanded that Robertson loosen the fit so that Ford's assembly line workers could ream them into place more quickly.

Robertson refused to compromise, and further ensured that the screws would never be licenced for use in the United States.

A guy named Philips was more agreeable to Ford's demands and loosened the fit on his cross-hatched product, thus creating that characteristic BBBRRRAAAAATTTT! sound, the mating call of the American handyman.

I think contributors to this forum will enjoy this little, expensive book. There are lots of reviews of it on Amazon.com.
