More than two decades ago my dad bought a Massey Ferguson at an auction. It really sold cheap, mainly I think because it was on propane. As I recall he paid $500 for it. I don't remember the model number. What we especially didn't like about the tractor was the engine RPM used to make power. We were used to Minnieapolis Molines that have those slow turning engines. Not so with the MF. In my opinion it didn't have the power it should, so I set the carburation with a fuel exhaust gas monitor, and also checked the timing. While it gained some, once those top RPMs would drop it really seemed to loose power. The operator comfort and work zone was set up well, and the gearing was much better than any MM we had owned. The operator sat a little lower to the ground than on an MM, so we found it to be a dirtier riding tractor (no cab on any). We finally traded it to a dealer that would trade for anything. We received a LPG tank and a lot of hardware items from his store--far more value than what had been paid for the tractor. MF has a good reputation and I wouldn't be afraid of owning one again. Hm, now that I think about it didn't one of the MF models look like a MM in disguise?
