Didn"t say if you had gas or diesel, but I have had both and are good sound tractors. My diesel pulls my NH haybine better, but I have a hill to climb with it more torque I suppose. It has been below freezing the last three days here in the morning and the only time I have problems starting the diesel is I forgot to push the kill cable in. I have not had to plug it in yet this year. That Perkins diesel is just the best. Yes I am a little biased or a maybe alot, I was raised with Massey, but if you could have only one tractor and you had 20 acres or less the MF 135 would be my choice in diesel. Reliable motor, live pto, power steering, compact size, remote hydraulics possible, and the best 3-pt setup in its class.

I just bought a MF 135 4cyl. gas with brushhog have not used it much but I think I will be happy with it. It has 35hp live pto, 6 forward 2 reverse
adjustable width, weighs about 3900 lb. looks a little rough ,runs good ,good tires everthing works gave $3500 for tractor and brush hog.

jase: Sounds like a MF 35 or 135. The very best Massey ever built. If I were asked to compile a list of the top 10 tracrors of all time, MF 35 or 135 would be in there. Probably the best tractor ever produced in the 35 hp class.

Go to the MF board and repost your inquiry. There are good and better tractors within every brand, the guys that own and work them every day are the best qualified to answer.

More than two decades ago my dad bought a Massey Ferguson at an auction. It really sold cheap, mainly I think because it was on propane. As I recall he paid $500 for it. I don't remember the model number.

What we especially didn't like about the tractor was the engine RPM used to make power. We were used to Minnieapolis Molines that have those slow turning engines. Not so with the MF.

In my opinion it didn't have the power it should, so I set the carburation with a fuel exhaust gas monitor, and also checked the timing. While it gained some, once those top RPMs would drop it really seemed to loose power.

The operator comfort and work zone was set up well, and the gearing was much better than any MM we had owned. The operator sat a little lower to the ground than on an MM, so we found it to be a dirtier riding tractor (no cab on any).

We finally traded it to a dealer that would trade for anything. We received a LPG tank and a lot of hardware items from his store--far more value than what had been paid for the tractor.

MF has a good reputation and I wouldn't be afraid of owning one again. Hm, now that I think about it didn't one of the MF models look like a MM in disguise?

Not only looked like a Minneapolis in disguise, the MF 97 was made by Minneapolis, the same thing as a G 706. My Minney book says there were only 429 Massey Ferguson 97's built. Regarding Massey Fergusons, they are a legend at least with the small ones. My dad has owned a "30" (along with a 165) for about 50 years and it's still going strong- on light chores.
