Wow! It wasn't that many years ago that the question of "What oil" would bring on a big old yellin match about detergent vs nondetergent, new vs OEM specs. I'm glad to see that has all been settled. I agree with Dave, NC and Sammy, use a modern oil. If this engine hasn't been overhauled and cleaned however I might error on the side of caution and change the oil frequently for the first while. The arguement that always arose about the detergent vs nondetergent oil is that the detergent oil may cause old sludge and solids to become suspended and cause damage. That's what the detergent oil does, it holds solids and sludge suspended in the oil so that the filter can catch it and also so that you get rid of the solids and sludge when you drain the oil. The old non detergents would allow those solids to settle out and create deposits. If you have lots of time and want to tinker with the tractor some I would suggest that you drop the oil pan and clean it so that at least you have a clean resevior. That's my 2 cents anyway.
