Contrary to what others say and I am not claiming to have all the answers, but you do not need bigger cables going from 6v to 12v. If anything you can use smaller cables. I use 6 guage on all my terminal connections. And one wire altenators do not drain batteries if they are hooked up properly. Go to a reputable junk yard and tell them you want a Delco-Remy one wire altenator with a internal regulator. All one wires are internal, but say that just to be sure. I buy them all the time for $10 a piece and he guarantees them for me. Get a plug or take two clips and put on the pins on the alternator. One goes to the post on the alternator and one goes in series between your coil and your switch. Be sure to put a current blocking diode in line with that wire as so where your altenator will not back drain your battery or prevent your tractor from shuuting off. Then run the wire off the post to your ammeter. Also do not buy anything electrical from Autozone. There ELECTRICAL stuff is cheap and they will not warranty half of it. Also instead of buying a ballast resistor, spend a couple more bucks and get a new 12v coil. Then just change your light bulbs and you should be ready to go. One last thought you might need to put a smaller pulley on your alternator. Hope this helps! Bill {Antique Acres}

The saga starts with the following message: Hey guys I have a decision to make. I know what you all will probably suggest and it will probably agree with me way down inside, but here it is. I have a picture blown up and framed in my "tractor room" of a Farmall M. It was my Grandpa's tractor, of which whom I never got to meet. He froze to death getting this tractor out of the barn to pull a truck out of the ditch before I was born. Anyway my dad and aunt had to sell it at the auction, ... [Read Article]
