No, TX is NOT the best state to retire in! It's hot & humid. (Been in the 90's with heat indices around 95-100 for a good part of October!) Scenery's boring as h^&%. Too flat most places. People not all that friendly and, besides, they talk funny. You won't like the food. (Nothing but BBQ and chicken fried steak.) Cities are real crowded. Rural areas are cliquish .. You'll still be "those new people" after 20 years. They all think their football teams are better than wherever you came from. (They aren't, of course, but you won't convince 'em.) Almost no snow, and that'll drive you crazy if you're from up north. (Admit it .. you like snow!) Almost no seasons. It's more like a blur of hot weather to warm weather to tolerable weather (very short) back to warm then hot. Trees don't change color much, and that'll bug you, too. And all the cowboy, Alamo and Tx heritage stuff .. don't get me started! Florida's got more beaches. AZ has nice dry climate plus pretty mountains if you want 'em. Same with NM. Colorado has even more nice hills & pretty trees. And there are probably one or two other nice states I'm forgetting that would be good places to retire. Well, hope this helps. John A (TX)
