Thermostat for 1958 HI 240 Utility

I had to change the top hose on the radiator of my 1958 International 240 utility tractor and found the thermostat laying inside the hose next to the radiator opening. I decided to test it in some boiling water. It opened but did not close. I figured I should get a new one , just to be sure.Don't know how long it may have moved there. I would like to know if I can find a suitable replacement from a car dealer or part store? What make, year and model may be used as replacement, if it is at all possible. What working temperature should I be looking for? I'm also in the process of changing the temp gauge and sensor as it is not working anymore. What is the thread size for the sensor?
