If you went down to your local auto parts store and invested about $20 in a compression gage, you could eliminate the tractors with ring and valve problems from those that just "smoke a little." They are not difficult to use on most tractors and a little research with the search key on this forum and many other sources on the the net will give you all the instructions you need.
