Yes, pump volume is important most logsplitters that are designed correctly have what is called a double pump circuit. These can be found in a Grainger catalog. To put it simply a large volume pump extends the ram quickly to the log and when the ram sees pressure the large volume pump is bypassed and the small volume pump does the final part of the stroke and splits the log.
