I have welded some wheels in this manner, and run them tubless at that, but I would probably have been better off just replacing the wheel. They invariably seem to fail again or develop leaks. Once corrosion sets in, it can be hard to beat. If this is on something that you are working, then I would at least price a new wheel. If not, or it's just a project, then try welding and patching. Just make sure the welds are clean and strong. HTH.
