Ya gots to get that air out of the gun first.

The way you do that is, after you have the gun tube loaded and tightened, pull that plunger rod back out again and turn it 90 degrees or so.

The lugs on the rod will catch the piston inside the pump and let you put pressure on that grease piston forcing it forwards. At that point, pump the handle a few times until you get a steady run of grease.

I usually just put that plunger rod up against my belt buckle, pull back on the gun body to create the pressure and give it a few throws til the air is all forced out.
