My grandpa was the county engineer for many years. It was always his practice to have the truck drivers and equipment operators drive their trucks home at night so all the equipment was not in the county shop in case of fire. Someone complained that all the county workers were getting free transportation so the practice was halted. Fast forward about 30 years. A fire started on a dump truck in the shop. The truck was completly destroyed. Luckily the fire was discovered and put out before the whole place went up. As it was about half a dozen pieces of equipment were damaged. On a side note the current engineer tried to get a sprinkler system put in the shop when it was built but it got voted down.
