The old style wheel bearing grease is to be used for a number of purposes. 1. In wheel bearings of an old tractor with seals that will not hold more modern grease but still works just fine with the "old stuff". 2. As an aid in the assembly of needle bearings as mentioned by someone else. 3. To hold the fuel pump push rod in place while changing a mschanical fuel pump in a "small block" Chevy engine. 4. For LONG TERM storage of steel and metal parts. (It stays in place, is easier to get a uniform coating on the parts and is easy to clean off with solvent). 5. It works quite well in the old worn "screw cap" grease fittings. 6. It works well as an assembly aid and lube when installing "packing gland" type seals. 7. A small "blob" of it on the tip of a screwdriver will "pick up" a small part (even a brass part)in a difficult to reach place. It is nice to have around for other purposes as the need arrises. (I just like to have some available and now I am OUT, should have stocked up when it was still available.) Thanks to all the replies.

And, if you are like me, your tractor is under cover, but it sits outside. So with every temperature change, the humidity in the air collects in the fuel tank, in the form of water.
