First of all, read the article before claiming to know what Deere is "trying to do". What they're trying to do is prevent used DEERE European-spec machines from coming to the States to haunt new owners and their servicing dealers. They're not trying to keep other manufacturers' machines out of the country - not Case-IH, not Kubota - but JOHN DEERE MACHINES. I've worked with European-spec Deere machines, and they are a pain. From not having the proper manuals to trying to get Euro-parts from the North American parts system that is stocked with parts for U.S.-spec machines, it is a big hassle. Two weeks to get some parts instead of a day or two. The article clearly states that some parts and attachments are NOT available here. So Joe Farmer gets a screaming deal on a European forage harvester, and then finds that he can't get certain parts or attachments he wants. Who is he going to be mad at? The guy that sold it to him? No. He'll be p.o.ed at Deere and his dealer for not being able to get parts for a machine that was NEVER intended to be sold here. You think a John Deere is a John Deere is a John Deere? Wrong. There are hundreds of part numbers that are found on a European 8400 tractor that aren't found on a North American 8400. From a parts/service standpoint, wouldn't it BENEFIT Deere to get all the green iron they could here in the states? No, because the cons outweigh the pros. I never cease to be amazed at all the "experts" and their conspiracy theories about companies they don't have the first clue about. Work a few years at the dealership level and learn all the ins and outs and hoops that have to be jumped through to provide quality service and keep the customer happy and THEN come on here and tell us what you know.

Today's Featured Article - Sunday Drives - by Cowboy. Summer was finally upon us here in Northern Maine. We have two types of industry up here, one being "Forestry" (Wood Products) and the other "Farming" (Potatoes). There is no shortage of farm tractors and equipment around here! I have been restoring old Farm Tractors for the past 6 years, and have found it easier and less expensive to hit all the auctions and purchase whole tractors for parts needed. My wife who works at a local school, and only has weekends and summers off, while on t ... [Read Article]
