Since you said it is a fiat and if it is similar to the engines used in Long tractors. The fuel lines are probably banjo type. Check the connection behind the fuel lift pump that comes from the tank. Take this line off and check it closely. I have had small trash partly clog in this fitting just enough to cause the fuel pump to cavitate and create air pockets that kill the engine. Had a Long 610 do just as yours does.
