I remember years ago when FWD was first coming out my Dad said he could not imagine what the need would be for that. Now that most of the tractors on the farm are FWD he says he doesnt know how we got by without it for all those years. I know in our area with the sandy soils a two wheel drive tractor cannot effectively put 150-200 hp to the ground while pulling a 28 ft disk. If you could tire it up to do it you couldnt get the thing turned around at the end of the row. Sometimes you dont have room to run dual rears in the crops and bigger cultivators require more hp put to the ground. I think there is an application for FWD just as there is with alot of other stuff. JD and CNH both have tractors exceeding 500 hp and they sell them to. Down here you hardly see a rubber tracked tractor but Cat sells a bunch of em. My$.02
