Any feedlot operators??

Just sold calves this weekend and had a question for any feedlot guys. Years ago, we wanted to get calves to high 500-600 lbs before we sold them. That seemed to be target weight that sold best. These days, seems that a 350-450 lb calf will actually bring MORE than a 500 and up calf. Why is this? I had one that weighed 590 that brought $501 and one that weighed 380 brought $555. I was hesitant to take that little one but figured I'd just get them all out same day. If this is a set trend, rather than holding them till 500+, maybe we should let them go a month earlier and give the cow more recuperation till she drops again??
