Hi Mack, I would strongly suspect a bad piston skirt slap, you did not say if you installed new pistons/rings, another possible cause of this slap could be the wrist pin on that piston is not functioning as it should, this will also give you some grief. The reason it goes away when you short out the cyl is there is no pressure on the piston and will travel up and down through the bore without having side pressure to cause the slap. Just my 2 cents worth, hope this will help you track down your problem, Good luck. Walter
