...or the solenoid is going bad/is bad. Have you tried jumping it 'AT' the solenoid("+" cable to the small connection)using a screwdriver? Be sure in Neutral/ watch for sparks/ don't trim your toenails with a chain saw/etc. You can get just the solenoid at many parts houses. AND the starter itself could be bad if the above doesn't help.
