What You Call It

It is interesting how some people are confused when a common name is given for some mechanical component which may not be the correct technican name. For instance: Cotter Pin- Cotter Key, Keyway -Key seat, Cap screw- Bolt, nut-tap, Cartridge- Shell, Pistol- Revolver, USS- NF, Street Ell- Half elbow.Bearing Race- Bearing cup,welding rod- electrode, I could go on but I doubt if this is really a problem in most shops. In working behind a parts counter we have heard them all and we can usually get the fellow what he wants; That is smart communication.

Product Review: Lead Substitutes - by Mike Schordine. Lead was oriinally added to gasoline as an upper cylinder lubricant. It lubes the valves and seats. If you rebuild the motor, you could use hardened seats and valves, and unleaded fuel. But if your old tractor runs good, a simple lead substitute added to the gas is a perfectly reasonable solution.
