OT- Starting a hibernating 6.9

I may have sold my International flatbed truck with the 6.9 deisel in it, but the new owner is having problems getting it to start. It is getting fuel to the injectors, and it is cranking over. He (without telling me) used ether and got it to pop some but it pushes aginst the starter (kicks back) and won't take off on its own. Fuel is probably 6 years old, AZ formulation, and the truck is here in upstate NY now. It ran decently before it sat that long, but it has only gone thru one winter up here, spending most of the time in sunny, dry , AZ. A buddy suggested pull starting it which may be a trick as there isn't a whole lot of weight on the rear tires..... Anyone know how to get this thing to run? Thanks! Truck
