If the motor control valve is open center and the tractor's valve is closed center. The full output of the hydraulic pump will circulate out to the motor�s open center valve and back to the tractor�s hydraulic reservoir. Not so bad but using HP to unnecessarily pump oil and heat it. As rendering other hydraulics like steering, brakes and other remotes useless with much reduced operating pressure.
I�ve tried explaining this one to my Father and Uncle for 15 years as they use the log splitter. They don�t like the vibration, hammering and noise, but they hate my explanation and cure even more. They just idle the tractor down and tie on the old bungee cord let her buzz.
A closed center control on the hydraulic motor on an open center tractor will have the hydraulic pump always running max pressure and lifting the relief valve. Even a worse HP thief and oil heater. No hydraulic functions down stream of the hydraulic remotes will work either.
