Isn't it funny how you can buy a starter for a 454 Chevy for $100 but a puny little JD junk starter is $245. Hmmm. Anyway, www.jackssmallengines.com may be a source. Or a local small engine shop may replace the brushes. Some cities have "starter/alternator" repair/rebuilding places (check your phone book) that can also repair them.
