I had a Ford 3 cyl redone; an inframe, non-sleeved engine. I checked the cylinders and they were real close to spec (believe it or not). The pistons and rings were shot. Had a machine shop do the head (including resurfacing), purchase the overhaul kit with new pistons, fit the piston pin, rods, and rings to the pistons. Came home, deglazed the cylinder walls, and put it all together with new lower bearings and gaskets (no front-rear seals). That was last year and have had super performance, starting ease, and runs like a top.. Threw my either can away. $1000. Had a shop done it, at least $2000 as they would have wanted to machine the block (that you removed from the tractor which I didn't have to), oversize the pistons and rings, and they are entitled to compensation for their work. I know some purists out there will scold me but I'm old enough to know that I will not outlive this overhaul, it was my money and time and this is the way I chose to do it. Mark
