Do a google search as there's many good self drilling website info out there.

Since your needing a shallow well, you might want to consider using a high pressure washer with a "A" frame.

Drill bits are easy made if you weld. You may want to use a combination of high pressure water and a hand rotated drill.

The water comes from a staurated aquafier of sand & gravel that runs into a sump (well shaft) then is pumped to the surface. Theres no open carvens or under ground lakes sitting there waiting to be pumped.

You might want to consider using a jet pump as there good too 80ft at a reasonable cost.
