loader question

I have a Massey Furgesson 399 90 model 95 pto hp with a mf 838 loader.It has an 8 ft bucket. I was lifting some gravel and dirt, I had a full bucket and it lifted it but it seemed to struggle with it. It made a whining noise and just barely lifted the bucket when it was full. I wanted to know if this was normal or if I had a loader problem. I am not sure how much an 8 ft bucket full of gravel and dirt would weigh, or if it should be able to lift it easily. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
