The generator field terminal SHOULD be connected to a light switch - permits the operator to select low or high charging rate. If you run your tractor only for short periods � like less than 15 minutes per start � you can get by simply by grounding the field terminal. However this can overcharge the battery if the tractor is run for longer periods. Better solution is to replace the cutout with a voltage regulator. A regulator senses battery voltage and automatically adjusts generator charge rate as required. It�ll be $40 well spent!
