I looked at a Class 44 and a 46 last fall; the 46 was about the same price and condition you describe. Everyone I talked to about them said they're real good machines, bale dry hay, silage, or corn stalks. Sounds to me like your Dad did about right. A 961 seems a bit light for making and hauling 4x6 bales, be careful moving them if you have anything resembling a hill.
