i'm only 16 but my dad just bought a used Claas rolant 46 round bailer for $3500 or $4500 ran through the shop and ready to go.. it has NO RUST and seems to be in pretty good shape, it is net wrap and string tie.. are claas bailers any good? is it worth 4500? i know it sounds stupid because we already bought it but can someone tell me if it sounds like a deal? any help is appreciated, also does anyone know off the top of their head what hp it takes to run it? were using a ford 961 diesel (46 hp) thanks a lot

thanks guys, i tried the bailer today, it runs it great it starts gettin a load right before the bale is done, perfect match, could use maybe 2 more hp, but its fine, weight is not a problem at all having 40 gallons of beat juice in each rear tire, the bales are nice and tight thanks guys

Try getting ahold of a Claas dealer for hp requirements. But I think on the 46 they recommend 50 or 55 hp as minimum. The soft core roller balers take more hp to run,so I think your Ford is a bit on the small side even on a good day. Not saying it won't run it..... .but rather that I myself would not use that small of a tractor on that baler. as for Claas balers....Claas is one of if not the top company when it comes to grassland farming.

well i'm trying it out today.. there's a guy we know that runs a new holland 5x4 bailer with 38 hp. and then the other friend runs a 4x4 bailer (belt) with a 44 horse tractor with ease, so i hope it will work, it should, there only 500 pouders and most of it is tounge weight.tires are loades with 40 gallons of beat juice on each side@ 9 pounds a gallon., thanks

I looked at a Class 44 and a 46 last fall; the 46 was about the same price and condition you describe. Everyone I talked to about them said they're real good machines, bale dry hay, silage, or corn stalks. Sounds to me like your Dad did about right. A 961 seems a bit light for making and hauling 4x6 bales, be careful moving them if you have anything resembling a hill.

they are 4x4 bales, not 4x6.. it shouldnt have a problem with it, we have a friend that runs a case bailer, similar to ours, with an older ford 4000, which is just like an 861 as far as weight.. thanks a lot Tom

What difference would it make now, if it were a 'good' or 'bad' deal? You don't know the price
paid, or anything about what you paid a healthy amount of cash for. In the next few months, you
should experience the answers to your questions.
Your diesel should work somewhat hard, but be
adequate, unless you have large acreage, heavy
hay growth.

i didnt ask for a reply like that, i dont need it, i was just asking if it seems like a ddeal, but i can see that you just want to post a follow up to be a jerk. i just was just wondering that even if the bailer works was that too much money...

Levi,
You posted the questions,we can not inspect your
purchase, for wear weakness, or possible abuse.
Added to this, the fact that you can not supply
the actual purchase price, how prepared were you? Your tractor Q was answered, so you reply
with a derogatory name? Keep it friendly...
