My father had a 682. It was one of the finest mowers/tractors ever made. His had just the same "malady" as you're describing. It was the electric clutch failing. It's a coil activated clutch. As it failed, it would short out, and kill the motor. They are very finicky to get working again. He had an International Harvester dealer re-do his. The clutch failed again in about 2 hours of use. It wasn't properly aligned when installed. The second try, they got it right. His was bought new in 1982. It is still cutting grass every summer. The new owner mows 10 acres of grass. The clutch isn't cheap, but you'll never buy a new mower as good as your 682. John
