Hi Mike, Here's a compilation of recent (2002) total gasoline taxes by state in the US. Actually our taxes here are about the lowest in the world:

The UK, France and Germany pay more just in taxes for a gallon than we pay for the entire gallon, taxes included...even at $2 per gal!  Rod
