My Dad has the same tractor. We looked at doing what you want to do. It can be done, it's not easy. The best way to do it would be to find one in a boneyard with the PTO shafts, and get everything you need from that tractor. If I remember correctly installation will require splitting the tractor and also removing the side of the differential case. So to answer your questions in order: Yes, it can be done. Yes, it probably will be expensive, even with junkyard stuff. No, parts shouldn't be too hard to find. Yes, it will be difficult and labor intensive.
