Let me jump in here. Agree with IDF it's a balanced package, you really don't want more trailer then your truck can stop. The 3/4 ton HD is rated around 12,000 with the 6.0 engine. That will is going to work some. The trailer package you have included (I think) a connector at the back mounted beside the receiver and is probably a 7 blade connector. One of those is for a brake controller. The package also included the harness and instructions for hooking up a brake controller in the cab. At least mine did when I bought it. Brakes are essential. Surge brakes are sorta like an after thought which really makes them undesirable. Electric brakes are OK if you use the trailer regularly. What you will notice, after the trialer has set awhile, is that there will be little or no braking for awhile. The rust has to be scrubbed off the brake magnet. May I suggest installing electric over hydraulic brakes. You will have brakes every time you need them. They work by having a small pump on the trailer, controlled by the brake controller, and brakes on the wheels like are on your truck (either drum or disc). In fact if you have surge brakes it is easy to switch--just install the pump. I recently purchased a 20,000 gvw trialer with vacumn over hydraulic brakes and am switching to electric over hydraulic. That's alot more trailer then I need but I won't overload it and with the brakes I'll get her stopped.
