Stan it all depends on how your system is wired and what all the key turns on and off.
If you only have the excite wire for the alternator and a hot wire for the start button like I do; you could start tractor and let it run for a few seconds then turn the key off. It will continue to run and the alternator will continue to charge with key off. Then you would just kill it with the fuel shut off when you are ready.
If you have any gauges they would need to be mechanical for this to work. Any electrical gauges and lights would not work with this system.
As I said depends on what the key controls but this system has worked well for me.
