Martin, Given the information on what you have in mind, I would choose the Farmall M over the Oliver 77 as it is a little more powerful and more versatile. However, If you want a Tractor that will do more than either of those tractors and remain fuel efficient, the Farmall 656 diesel is hard to beat. It has both live pto and hydraulics, 3 point hitch, an economical diesel engine, and will handle just about any job on a small farming operation. That said, the initial investment is about double of what you will pay for a 77 or an M, but will save you a lot of arm twisting labor.
