Jim had a good idea in searching the archives. I have used diesel in the sumps and that has been years ago and know of no problems. Diesel seems to have a reasonable ability to dilute sludge, plus it it a petroleum distallate as is the regular fluid and it is not very flammable as compared to more violatile substances. When finished use Hy/trans rated for Ford spec Nxxxx53x, or Nxxxx134x. Auto parts stores in our rural areas carry it. The stuff we use has everybody's spec on the reverse side including the colors you mentioned and green, white, dark green and yellow. If the pump is the rotary type, there will be a 1/4 pipe plug, accessible with a hex socket wrench on top of the pump. I don't know how to prime the gear pump (other type used). To purge, start engine and leave at idle with the plug almost out. Air will come out first and when you get to a steady stream of fluid lock her down. After all that run the rpm's up to 1200 or so and run the lift lever up and down a dozen or so times to purge the lift piston. Put a load on it and see if it lifts properly. If not, hit the Ford archives and there are adequate experts to direct you thru replacement of the lift piston seals and associated goodies.
