If the silo is still good laying it down could destroy it as it will become egg shaped and the enamal coating will crack. The crane co. I work for actually hooks to the top of them and holds them up while workers on the ground unbolt and remove sections. Then the crane lowers it down so they can reach the next section to unbolt it. We had one crew of six guys with impact wrenchs totally dissassemble and load on a truck a 60 foot silo in about 4 hours.
