The Harvestore Co. took mine down. They just reversed the order that they used to put it up.
Bolted on jacks and unbolted the sections one row at a time as they lowered the jacks and reatached them. Only took about a day for a 60 foot silo. Good luck. Ed

How big and how old is it. If its not too far away and decent I might be interested if the price was right

They seem to have no value, due to unloader cost,
service work. There is a 20x60 on a farm left to a religious following. They offered the silo free, for removing, it continued to stand. The
price of dismantle, new cement base, outweighs assembling again. There is a farm that had a barn fire 5 years ago,
about 6 blue angels standing to 25x80, nothing for interest. Appears the popular 70's sales were
the wrong investment. Buyer's loss now.

Thank You all for answering.
JW, the silo is about 30 years old. You could have it for Your own dismantling, but it is located in Austria/Europe.

If the silo is still good laying it down could destroy it as it will become egg shaped and the enamal coating will crack. The crane co. I work for actually hooks to the top of them and holds them up while workers on the ground unbolt and remove sections. Then the crane lowers it down so they can reach the next section to unbolt it. We had one crew of six guys with impact wrenchs totally dissassemble and load on a truck a 60 foot silo in about 4 hours.

around my parts (southeast SD) - they are just an empty nightmare for the most part - some people are hoping for a tornado so that insurance will pay for their removal - some are still used for grain - but none that I know of for silage

Anyone know of a conversion of Harvestore steel silo to multi pod or vertical home?? the rings in my 20" dia X 48" hi silo are 9"hi every 2 rings which if set on site as "pod" would make 3 pod home of 1200SF + 1 ring for pool

Ask someone that hasn't kept up with the payments to Harvestore, and watched the company come and reclaim the silo. Actually, I would talk to a grain bin crew, and see if they wouldn't take the job on.

Is the silo salvagable, or is it rusted out?

I remember reading somewhere, probably "Farm Show" about an outfit that can lay down and move a Harvestore to a new location. They may help find buyers, and do needed repairs?

Perhaps thatt would be something to check into.

I've even heard of a company using an old army chopper and moving them to a new location. I've talked to one guy who actually used to fly for them. Sounds like fun to me..... ...NOT hehehe
