This is probably going against the grain of the other posts and maybe there is some reason you shouldn't do this, but I think you should replace the other spring on the same axle with a spring identical to the one you just replaced. If you have 2 springs with equal arch, on each axle the trailer should track straight down the road. If it carries one axle when empty, so what? those tires will last a little longer. If you have 1 spring on the trailer with either greater/lesser spring rate or different arch in it, then the walking tandem equalizer will tilt, drawing the axles a tiny bit closer together on that side. That will try to drag the trailer in a slight curve toward that side. so you'll always be trying to drag the trailer the opposite direction to steer a straight line.
